Walkthrough of your 3X4 Genetics test

Thank you for ordering a 3X4 Genetics test. This guide walks you through what to expect, from receiving your kit to reviewing your results with your practitioner.

Note: This article covers 3X4 Blueprint and GENEFIT Sport orders placed within the United States through a practitioner or with a 3X4 consultation.

Your 3X4 DNA kit

You will receive a 3X4 DNA Kit which contains everything you need to collect a DNA sample and return it to the lab.

Plan when to collect your sample

The swab takes 1 to 2 minutes. Collect your sample first thing in the morning, before brushing your teeth or putting anything in your mouth, including food and drink. If you already have, wait at least 60 minutes before collecting.

Register your kit code

Before you collect your sample, register the unique kit code on your vial label with your 3X4 account. Each 3X4 account can register one kit, so each kit needs its own email address.

Tip: Registering a kit for a child? Most email providers let you add a plus sign and a word before the @ in your own address, such as jane+emma@example.com. Messages still arrive in your usual inbox.

The code identifies your sample during storage, transit, and lab processing, which helps protect your personal identity and lets us securely match your results to you.

Follow the getting started instructions on the card inside your kit. The registration link is on the card or on the bottom of your kit tube.

Collect your cheek sample

Once you've registered your kit code, step-by-step collection instructions will appear on screen.

Return your sample to the lab

Packing and return instructions will appear on screen after the collection instructions. You can also find them in How to return your DNA sample to the lab.

Caution: Don't ship your sample without registering your kit code first. As a backup, write down or take a photo of the code on your vial label, since the vial label goes to the lab with your sample. A sample that can't be matched to an account may be discarded.

We recommend returning your sample within 1 to 2 days of collection so processing can begin promptly. Please ship it within 7 days of collection.

If your practitioner manages kit returns, follow their instructions instead.

Receive your results

Once the lab receives your sample, processing typically takes 3 to 4 weeks.

When your results are ready, they will be shared with your practitioner, who will contact you to schedule a time to review them together. Your practitioner will also let you know how and when you'll receive a copy of your 3X4 Genetics report PDF.
