How to collect your DNA sample

Step 1: Inspect your kit

Before collecting your sample, do a quick visual check:

The vial contains liquid and shows no signs of leaking
The swab packet is sealed
Neither item has expired
The small resealable mylar bag closes securely

Your kit includes an instruction card with a QR code and website link for kit registration. Once registered, you'll receive step-by-step instructions for collecting your sample.

Step 2: Plan your collection

The swab takes 1–2 minutes. For best results, collect your sample first thing in the morning, before brushing your teeth, eating, drinking, or putting anything else in your mouth. If you've already eaten, drunk, or introduced anything into your mouth, wait at least 30 minutes before collecting.

Step 3: Collect your sample

Follow the step-by-step instructions provided in your 3X4 account after registration. It's important to follow these exactly, as samples that don't meet quality standards at the lab will need to be recollected.
